Building Knowledge
Behaving with ethics and integrity is the cornerstone of any successful organization. As recent events in the news have demonstrated, corporations that fail to have a strong ethical foundation can collapse or be severely impaired regardless of their size, commodity, or influence. At GAFRI, integrity in every aspect of our business has always been – and continues to be – a major part of our corporate culture. One of the strongest ways in which this integrity comes alive at GAFRI is through our commitment to building knowledge internally.
To operate with integrity means going the extra mile in training our associates how to be compliant with the law. In other words, if we intend to act with integrity, then everyone needs to be informed about current laws and industry standards to which we are committed as a corporation. As a vital part of GAFRI’s robust training and development program, all associates have been educated about each of the following special laws, programs, business initiatives, and ethical areas:
- Sarbanes-Oxley Act (a 2002 federal Act that covers a broad range of issues, including the use of accounting standards, the retention of files, and the protection of whistleblowers)
- Ethics (e.g., how to handle conflicting business situations)
- Insurance Marketplace Standards Association (IMSA) (see our IMSA Members page for more information)
- Complaints (established policies and procedures for recording, responding, and acting upon complaints)
- Copyright (understanding copyright laws)
- Anti-Fraud (being aware of red flags to protect ourselves against internal fraud)
- Anti-Money Laundering (AML) (knowing how GAFRI tracks cash internally; recognizing possible indicators of money laundering; understanding how new federal regulations create additional compliance measures for financial institutions)
- Information Security (protecting information as a corporate asset from a wide range of threats through a variety of organizational policies, controls, and safeguards)
- Policy Notes (for effective contract/policy administration)
- E-mail Content (following corporate guidelines for the ethical use of e-mail)
- Privacy (protecting the personal and confidential data of our customers and consumers – see our Privacy Notice for more information)
